Das Bundesgericht ist das oberste Gericht der Schweizerischen Eidgenossenschaft. Als Teil der rechtsprechenden Gewalt gehört es zu einer der drei Staatsgewalten im politischen System der Schweiz.
Es hat seinen Hauptsitz im Bundesgerichtsgebäude in Lausanne im Kanton Waadt. Die beiden sozialrechtlichen Abteilungen des Bundesgerichts befinden sich in Luzern. Die Vereinigte Bundesversammlung wählt die 38 Bundesrichter; die amtierende Bundesgerichtspräsidentin ist Martha Niquille.
