Hundwil ist eine politische Gemeinde und eine Ortschaft im Hinterland des Kantons Appenzell Ausserrhoden in der Schweiz. Sie liegt an der Strasse zwischen Herisau und Appenzell und bestehet aus dem Dorf, zahlreichen Weilern, Einzelhöfen und Alpen sowie bis 1749 aus Stein .
Auf Hundwiler Gemeindegebiet liegt auch der Säntis , den Hundwil aber mit anderen Gemeinden teilt. Die Talstation Schwägalp der Luftseilbahn Schwägalp–Säntis gehört auch zur langgezogenen Gemarkung Hundwil.
