Potsdam [ˈpɔt͡sdam] ist eine kreisfreie Stadt und mit rund 180.000 Einwohnern die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt und Hauptstadt des Landes Brandenburg. Das an der Havel gelegene Potsdam grenzt südwestlich an Berlin und ist ein Wachstumszentrum in dessen Ballungsraum, der rund 4,5 Millionen Einwohner umfasst.
Die Stadt ist bekannt für ihr Vermächtnis als ehemalige Residenzstadt der Könige von Preußen mit den zahlreichen und einzigartigen Schloss- und Parkanlagen und der bedeutenden bürgerlichen Kernstadt. Die Kulturlandschaften wurden 1990 von der UNESCO als größtes Ensemble der deutschen Welterbestätten in die Liste des Weltkultur- und Naturerbes der Menschheit aufgenommen. Seit 2019 ist Potsdam außerdem UNESCO-Filmstadt.
