Ostfildern ist eine Stadt in Baden-Württemberg, direkt südöstlich der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart.
Die erst 1975 im Rahmen der Gebietsreform entstandene Stadt hatte bei ihrer Gründung mehr als 20.000 Einwohner. Daher wurde sie zum 1. Juli 1976 zur Großen Kreisstadt erklärt. Heute ist sie nach Esslingen am Neckar, Filderstadt, Nürtingen, Kirchheim unter Teck und Leinfelden-Echterdingen die sechstgrößte Stadt des Landkreises Esslingen und gehört zum Mittelbereich Esslingen innerhalb des Oberzentrums Stuttgart. Sie gehört zur Region Stuttgart und zur europäischen Metropolregion Stuttgart.
