Wildenfels ist die kleinste Stadt im Landkreis Zwickau. Schon innerhalb der Ortslage ist die Stadt Wildenfels mit ihren Ortsteilen Wildenfels, Härtensdorf, Schönau, Wiesenburg und Wiesen in eine bergige Landschaft eingebettet, umrahmt von viel Grün und den Höhenzügen des Erzgebirges. Von der einheimischen Bevölkerung wird die westerzgebirgische Mundart gesprochen.
Durch mehrere aufgelassene Steinbrüche hat sich eine in Sachsen seltene Kalkflora ausgebildet, die für das Wildenfelser Zwischengebirge, ein Kleinod für Geologen und Naturfreunde, prägend ist.
