Ratzeburg ist eine Kleinstadt in Schleswig-Holstein, nahe der Grenze zu Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Ratzeburg ist die Kreisstadt des Kreises Herzogtum Lauenburg. Sie ist als Luftkurort bekannt und aufgrund der Lage ihrer Altstadt inmitten des Ratzeburger Sees und deren lediglich über drei Dämme verlaufenden Verbindung mit dem Festland auch eine „Inselstadt“. Neben der Altstadtinsel gehören auch St. Georgsberg, Vorstadt und Dermin zum Stadtgebiet.
Ratzeburg liegt im Naturpark Lauenburgische Seen. Die nächsten größeren Städte sind Lübeck, Hamburg und Schwerin. Ratzeburg ist Bestandteil der Metropolregion Hamburg.
