Frankenheim ist eine Gemeinde zwischen Meiningen und Fulda in der Rhön, sie ist Mitglied der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Hohe Rhön, die ihren Verwaltungssitz in der Stadt Kaltennordheim hat.
Die Gemeinde liegt in der Hohen Rhön, im Drei-Länder-Eck Hessen, Thüringen und Bayern, im Biosphärenreservat Rhön und ist mit einer Höhenlage von 750–780 m ü. NN das höchstgelegene Dorf der Rhön. Oberhalb des Ortes befindet sich der Aussichtsberg Ellenbogen . Nachbarorte sind Hilders, Leubach, Reichenhausen und Birx.
