Tecklenburg ist eine Kleinstadt im Kreis Steinfurt im Norden von Nordrhein-Westfalen. Sie liegt südwestlich von Osnabrück am Teutoburger Wald. Sehenswert ist der Stadtkern mit vielen Fachwerkhäusern. Tecklenburg liegt in der nach ihr benannten Region Tecklenburger Land im nördlichen Westfalen. Der Name lässt sich auf die in Tecklenburg befindliche Burg Tecklenburg und ihre Burgherren aus dem Grafenhaus Tecklenburg zurückführen. Des Weiteren war Tecklenburg einst Regierungssitz der Grafschaft Tecklenburg und später Verwaltungssitz des ehemaligen Kreises Tecklenburg.
