Sayda ist eine kreisangehörige Stadt im Südosten des Landkreises Mittelsachsen. Sie ist Teil der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Sayda/Dorfchemnitz und seit dem Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts urkundlich dokumentiert.
Die Bergstadt Sayda liegt im Osterzgebirge zwischen den Tälern der Freiberger Mulde und der Flöha. Der Wasserturm steht auf dem höchsten Punkt der Stadt mit 680 m ü. NN. Im Norden befindet sich die Saydaer Höhe mit 729 m ü. NN. Im Uhrzeigersinn ist der Ort umgeben von dem Meisenberg , der König-Friedrich-August-Höhe , Hexenberg und der Voigtsdorfer Höhe . Große Wälder in der Gemeinde sind das Mühlholz, der schwarze Busch, der Tännicht und das alte Gehau.
