Ecklingerode ist eine Gemeinde im thüringischen Landkreis Eichsfeld, rund drei Kilometer östlich von Duderstadt direkt an der Grenze zu Niedersachsen. Sie gehört zur Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Lindenberg/Eichsfeld.
Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung geht auf eine Schenkungsurkunde von Graf Hermann von Harzburg und seinem Bruder Graf von Werder aus dem Jahre 1221 zurück. Vom 14. bis zum Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts gehörte Ecklingerode zum Westerhagenschen Gericht Berlingerode. Landesherr war bis 1802 Kurmainz. 1802 bis 1807 war der Ort preußisch und kam dann zum Königreich Westphalen. 1815 bis 1945 war er Teil der preußischen Provinz Sachsen.
