Haßfurt ist die Kreisstadt des Landkreises Haßberge im bayerischen Regierungsbezirk Unterfranken, 20 km östlich von Schweinfurt. Die Stadt am Main entstand um 1230 als Grenzbefestigung zwischen den Bistümern Würzburg und Bamberg. Obwohl das Stadtwappen einen Hasen zeigt, stammt der Ortsname vom germanischen Hasufurth .
Haßfurt liegt am Nordufer des Mains am Südwestrand des Naturparks Haßberge. Das Mittelzentrum gehört zur Region Main-Rhön. Vier Kilometer östlich der Stadt erhebt sich die Hohe Wann, ein 387 Meter hoher Berg mit einem Naturschutzgebiet. Die Stadt wird in Wohn- oder Stadtgebiet, Neubaugebiet und Industriegebiet eingeteilt. Die nächstgelegenen Ortschaften sind Wülflingen , Sylbach und Augsfeld .
