Die Stadt Weingarten ist nach der Nachbarstadt Ravensburg und nach Wangen im Allgäu die drittgrößte Stadt im Landkreis Ravensburg. Seit dem 1. Januar 1974 ist sie Große Kreisstadt. Sie erstreckt sich auf 12,16 km² Fläche und hat 25.168 Einwohner, was 2.069,74 Einwohner/km² entspricht. Die Ursprünge der Siedlung reichen bis ins 5. Jahrhundert zurück. Geprägt wurde die Stadt jahrhundertelang durch die von den Welfen gegründete Reichsabtei Weingarten, deren Klosterkirche zu den größten Kirchenbauten im Barockstil nördlich der Alpen gehört und eine der bedeutendsten Barockorgeln Deutschlands beherbergt. Weingarten ist Sitz einer Pädagogischen Hochschule und einer Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Sozialwesen. Die Stadt ist überregional auch als Fasnetshochburg und für ihren Blutritt bekannt, eine jährlich stattfindende Reiterprozession zu Ehren einer Heilig-Blut-Reliquie.
