Friedeburg ist eine Gemeinde und ein staatlich anerkannter Erholungsort im Landkreis Wittmund in Niedersachsen. Die Gemeinde liegt am Ostrand des ostfriesisch-oldenburgischen Geestrückens, von dem Ausläufer in die nordöstlich gelegene Marsch vorstoßen. Mit rund 164 Quadratkilometern ist Friedeburg die nach Fläche drittgrößte Gemeinde Ostfrieslands. Dort leben 10.269 Menschen. Mit ihren 62 Einwohnern pro Quadratkilometer ist die Gemeinde sehr dünn besiedelt. Friedeburg hat Anteil an allen drei prägenden Landschaftsformen des ostfriesischen Festlands, nämlich Marsch, Geest und Moor.
