Rheydt ist ein Stadtteil der kreisfreien Stadt Mönchengladbach. Bis 1929 und von 1933 bis 1974 war Rheydt eine eigenständige Stadt in der Rheinprovinz und Nordrhein-Westfalen. Zum 1. Januar 1975 wurde die Stadt Rheydt durch das Düsseldorf-Gesetz im Zuge der Gebietsreform in Nordrhein-Westfalen mit der Stadt Mönchengladbach und der Gemeinde Wickrath zur heutigen Stadt Mönchengladbach vereinigt.
