Der Main-Taunus-Kreis ist eine Gebietskörperschaft mit 239.276 Einwohnern im Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt in Hessen. Der Landkreis liegt im Kern des Rhein-Main-Gebietes und ist der flächenkleinste sowie der am zweitdichtesten besiedelte Landkreis Deutschlands. Der Main-Taunus-Kreis befindet sich im westlichen Vorortbereich von Frankfurt am Main bzw. östlich der hessischen Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden und nordöstlich der rheinland-pfälzischen Landeshauptstadt Mainz. Kreisstadt ist seit 1987 die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt Hofheim am Taunus. Vor 1987 befand sich der Sitz der Kreisverwaltung in Frankfurt-Höchst, welches bis 1928 Kreisstadt des Vorgängerkreises Höchst am Main war.
