Der Kreis Höxter ist ein Kreis im Regierungsbezirk Detmold im äußersten Osten Nordrhein-Westfalens und liegt mit seinen Grenzen am Dreiländereck zu Niedersachsen und Hessen.
Kreisstadt ist Höxter. Mit 116 Einwohnern je km² weist der Kreis die niedrigste Bevölkerungsdichte aller Kreise in Nordrhein-Westfalen und nach dem Kreis Olpe die zweitniedrigste Einwohnerzahl aller Kreise in Nordrhein-Westfalen auf.
