Das Römisch-Germanische Museum der Stadt Köln ist das Archäologische Museum der Stadt Köln und Amt für Archäologische Bodendenkmalpflege für das Kölner Stadtgebiet und damit das Archiv des materiellen Erbes der Vorgeschichte sowie der römischen und fränkischen Epochen.
Verbunden mit dem römischen Dionysosmosaik und der zum Rheinhafen der Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium führenden „Hafenstraße“ ging das RGM 1946 aus der Römischen und Germanischen Abteilung des Wallraf-Richartz-Museums und dem Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte hervor. Architektonisch ist das am 4. März 1974 eröffnete preisgekrönte Museumsgebäude als „Schaufenster in die Römerzeit“ konzipiert. Seine umlaufenden Säulenstellungen erinnern an das darunterliegende römische Peristylhaus mit dem bekannten Dionysosmosaik. Dieses Mosaik ist vom Roncalliplatz aus im Museumsuntergeschoss sichtbar.
