Wald-Michelbach im Odenwald ist mit einer Fläche von über 74 km² die flächenmäßig größte Gemeinde im südhessischen Kreis Bergstraße, noch vor der Stadt Lampertheim.
Wald-Michelbach liegt im Zentrum der geologischen Entwicklung des Odenwaldes, am Schnittpunkt des nördlichen → Böllsteiner-Gneis-Odenwaldes, des westlichen → Trommgranits und des östlichen → Buntsandstein-Odenwaldes. Diese Formationen wurden verursacht durch große Bewegungen der Erdkruste in zwei verschiedenen Erdzeitaltern und einer zwischenzeitlichen Abtragung und Sedimentation.
