Achterwehr ist eine Gemeinde im Kreis Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein. Sie liegt westlich der Landeshauptstadt Kiel. Große Gebiete der Gemeinde gehören zum Naturpark Westensee. Am Rande des Ortskerns schlängelt sich der Fluss Eider vorbei.
Zur Gemeinde gehört der Ortsteil Schönwohld und die Güter Marutendorf und Hohenschulen. Südlich von Achterwehr liegen der Ahrensee und der Poolsee. Der historische Achterwehrer Schifffahrtskanal verbindet den Nord-Ostsee-Kanal mit der Eider. In Achterwehr befindet sich eine 500 Jahre alte Eiche und in Schönwohld eine noch ältere Eibe.
