Der Finnetunnel ist mit einer Länge von 6965 Metern der längste Eisenbahntunnel der Neubaustrecke Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle. Er durchquert zwischen Eßleben-Teutleben und Bad Bibra bei einer maximalen Überdeckung von 65 Metern den Höhenzug Finne.
Die Herstellung des Bauwerks wurde Mai 2006 ausgeschrieben und im Dezember 2006 vergeben. Bei Herrengosserstedt/Eßleben-Teutleben entstand die Baustelleneinrichtung für das Westportal des Finnetunnels. Am 5. Mai 2008 wurde mit dem Vortrieb begonnen. Das Bauwerk war Ende 2011 im Rohbau weitestgehend fertiggestellt.
