Der Bahnhof Untertürkheim besteht aus zwei Bahnhofsteilen: dem Personenbahnhof im Netz der Stuttgarter S-Bahn und einem nördlich gelegenen Güterbahnhof. Die Abkürzung im Betriebsstellenverzeichnis lautet „TSU“.
Für Untertürkheim begann das Eisenbahnzeitalter am 22. Oktober 1845 mit der Eröffnung der ersten Eisenbahnlinie Württembergs. Das erste Teilstück der Zentralbahn verband die kleine Weinbaugemeinde mit ihrer knapp fünf Kilometer entfernt liegenden Oberamtsstadt Cannstatt. Bereits am 7. November 1845 wurde die Strecke bis Obertürkheim verlängert.
