Als Sitzkrieg, früher auch Seltsamer Krieg , wird der Zustand an der Westfront des Zweiten Weltkrieges zwischen der Kriegserklärung Großbritanniens und Frankreichs an das Deutsche Reich am 3. September 1939 infolge des deutschen Angriffs auf Polen und dem Beginn des deutschen Westfeldzugs am 10. Mai 1940 beschrieben, in dem beide Seiten militärisch weitgehend passiv blieben.
Im am 19. Mai 1939 von Maurice Gamelin und Tadeusz Kasprzycki unterzeichneten französisch-polnischen Militärabkommen verpflichtete sich Frankreich zu folgenden 3 Punkten im Fall eines deutsch-polnischen Krieges:
