Als Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz wird seit 1946 der ehemalige Pferdemarkt in der Hamburger Innenstadt bezeichnet. Der Name des Platzes, dessen Nordseite vom Thalia Theater begrenzt wird, erinnert an den Dramatiker Gerhart Hauptmann.
Der im Nordosten der Altstadt zwischen der Ecke Alstertor / Rosenstraße und dem Speersort gelegene Pferdemarkt zählte seit dem Mittelalter zu den größten und wichtigsten Marktplätzen der Stadt. Nach dem Bau der Hamburger Wallanlagen im 17. Jahrhundert wurde der Pferdehandel zum Neuen Pferdemarkt unweit des Heiligengeistfeldes verlegt. Später waren hier am Alstertor das Werk- und Zuchthaus sowie das Spinnhaus angesiedelt. Der Maler David Kindt bewohnte im 17. Jahrhundert ein Haus am Pferdemarkt. Der Maler Gerdt Hardorff wohnte von 1816 bis 1825 am Pferdemarkt 155.
