Der Flughafen Leipzig-Mockau war der erste zivile Flughafen Leipzigs. Er wurde 1913 als Luftschiffhafen und Fliegerstation in Betrieb genommen. Im Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg existierten auf dem Gelände Produktionsanlagen für die Flugzeug-Rüstungsindustrie, und der Platz diente als Werksflugplatz. Bis zu seiner Stilllegung 1991 wurde der Mockauer Flughafen zivil genutzt.
Nachdem 1911 in Lindenthal bei Leipzig Sachsens erster ziviler Flugplatz eröffnet hatte, nahm man auch in der Stadt selbst Planungen für einen Flughafen auf.
