Die Ingelheimer Kaiserpfalz ist eine bedeutende Kaiserpfalz, erbaut für Karl den Großen Ende des 8. Jahrhunderts, zwischen 780 und 800. Nach dem Bericht seines zeitgenössischen Biographen Einhard zählte sie zu den „herrlichsten Palästen“ des Kaisers neben der Aachener Königspfalz und der Pfalz Nimwegen. Vollendet wurde der Bau jedoch erst unter Karls Sohn Ludwig dem Frommen, der sich hier oft aufhielt. Die Ingelheimer Pfalz diente in der Epoche des Reisekönigtums den römisch-deutschen Kaisern und Königen bis ins 11. Jahrhundert als zeitweiliger Aufenthalts- und Regierungsort. Ende des 10. Jahrhunderts wurde sie renoviert.
