Der Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim liegt im Südwesten von Niedersachsen an der Staatsgrenze zu den Niederlanden und der Landesgrenze zu Nordrhein-Westfalen. Kreisstadt und größte Stadt des Landkreises ist Nordhorn mit über 54.000 Einwohnern.
Die Grafschaft Bentheim liegt direkt an der deutsch-niederländischen Grenze; die Niedergrafschaft ragt großenteils in das Nachbarland hinein. Der Wielener Ortsteil Vennebrügge ist der westlichste Ort auf dem niedersächsischen Festland.
