Die Steinhuder Meer-Bahn AG betrieb eine 52,7 Kilometer lange Eisenbahnstrecke in Schmalspur von Wunstorf über Steinhude, Bad Rehburg, Stolzenau bis Uchte und eine sechs Kilometer lange, zunächst dreischienige, später nur normalspurige Strecke von Wunstorf nach Bokeloh.
Am 21. Mai 1898 wurde der erste Abschnitt von Wunstorf mit Kopfbahnhof beim Hotel Ritter bis Bad Rehburg in Betrieb genommen. Weitere Teilstrecken folgten am 29. Oktober 1898 bis Rehburg Stadt, am 9. Dezember 1898 bis Stolzenau, am 1. April 1899 bis Nendorf und am 2. Mai 1899 bis Uchte Kleinbahnhof. Hier war Anschluss an die Mindener Kreisbahnen. So konnte man auf Schmalspurgleisen von Wunstorf über Uchte und Minden bis nach Lübbecke in Westfalen reisen.
