Die AVUS liegt im Südwesten Berlins und ist das nördliche Teilstück der Autobahn A 115. Bei ihrer Eröffnung im Jahr 1921 war die AVUS die erste ausschließliche Autostraße der Welt. Die 8,3 Kilometer lange und gebührenpflichtige Strecke diente bis 1940 als Renn- und Teststrecke und nicht dem öffentlichen Verkehr.
Die AVUS führt vom Funkturm, an dem sie einen Anschluss zum Berliner Stadtring hat, rund neun Kilometer geradeaus durch den Grunewald bis nach Nikolassee. Bis zum April 1998 wurde die AVUS zusätzlich an bestimmten Wochenenden auch als Rennstrecke genutzt.
