Der Dom St. Marien ist eine evangelisch-lutherische Kirche am Untermarkt im sächsischen Freiberg. Vor der Reformation war das Gotteshaus eine Stiftskirche, eine Kathedrale war es nie. Ungeachtet dessen ist der Freiberger Dom eines der am reichsten ausgestatteten Gotteshäuser Sachsens und enthält mit der Goldenen Pforte, der Tulpenkanzel, den Orgeln Gottfried Silbermanns und dem zur Begräbnisstätte der Albertiner umgestalteten Chor bedeutende Kunstwerke.
Um 1180 entstand in dem noch jungen, durch Silberfunde sich schnell entwickelnden Ort Freiberg die romanische Basilika Unserer Lieben Frauen. Die Pfarrkirche erhielt mit der spätromanischen Triumphkreuzgruppe, auch Kreuzigungsgruppe genannt , und der Goldenen Pforte schon frühzeitig zwei sehr bedeutende, noch heute erhaltene Kunstwerke. Im Jahr 1480 erhob Papst Sixtus IV. die Pfarrkirche zum Kollegiatstift. Jedoch schon nach nur 57 Jahren wurde das Kollegiatstift im Zuge der Reformation in Sachsen aufgelöst.
