Augusta Vindelicum ist der römisch-antike und neulateinische Name der Stadt Augsburg. In der Antike wurde auch der Name Aelium Augustum verwendet.
Wohl unter Kaiser Trajan wurde sie zur Hauptstadt der römischen Provinz Raetia erhoben. Diese römische Provinz reichte vom Bodensee bis zum Inn und unterteilte sich seit dem 4. Jahrhundert in Raetia prima mit der Hauptstadt Chur und in Raetia secunda mit der Hauptstadt Augsburg. Davor war Cambodunum die Hauptstadt der Provinz. Raetien umfasste ursprünglich das heutige Gebiet von Schwaben mit dem Allgäu, Oberbayern westlich des Inns und Niederbayern südlich der Donau, Oberschwaben und Ost-Württemberg, Teile von Tirol, Vorarlberg und der Schweiz. Nach der Reichsreform unter Kaiser Diokletian umfasste die Raetia Secunda lediglich noch die heutigen bayerischen Regierungsbezirke Schwaben und Oberbayern sowie Teile von Tirol.
