Das Helmholtz Zentrum München – Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Gesundheit und Umwelt ist ein Großforschungszentrum in Neuherberg nördlich von München und Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren. Seine Forschungsarbeiten sind integriert in die Helmholtz-Forschungsbereiche „Erde und Umwelt“ sowie „Gesundheit“. Am 31. Mai 1960 wurde es als Versuchs- und Ausbildungsstätte für Strahlenschutz der Gesellschaft für Kernforschung gegründet. Daraus ging am 23. Juni 1964 die Gesellschaft für Strahlenforschung in der Organisationsform einer GmbH hervor.
Gesellschafter sind nach dem Gesellschaftsvertrag vom 13. Februar 1978 zu 90 % die Bundesrepublik Deutschland und zu 10 % der Freistaat Bayern .
