Der Bahnhof Darmstadt-Kranichstein ist heute vorwiegend ein Nahverkehrsbahnhof der Stadt Darmstadt. Er bindet den Stadtteil Kranichstein und das Eisenbahnmuseum Darmstadt-Kranichstein an den öffentlichen Nahverkehr an. Teile des gleichnamigen Rangierbahnhofs sind noch vorhanden. Aus dessen angegliedertem, ehemaligen Bahnbetriebswerk ging das Eisenbahnmuseum hervor.
