Garching bei München ist eine Stadt im Norden des oberbayerischen Landkreises München. Sie grenzt im Süden an die bayerische Landeshauptstadt München, im Norden an die Gemeinde Eching im Landkreis Freising, im Westen an die Gemeinde Oberschleißheim und im Osten entlang der Isar an die Gemeinde Ismaning . Die Stadt ist insbesondere durch ihr Forschungszentrum mit vielen universitären und außeruniversitären Forschungseinrichtungen international bekannt geworden.
Es gibt drei amtlich benannte Gemeindeteile: Dem Hauptort Garching bei München, dem südlich davon gelegenen Dorf Dirnismaning mit rund 150 Einwohnern und der im Westen gelegene Siedlung Hochbrück, das etwa 2200 Einwohner und ein großes Industriegebiet aufweist.
Der Forschungscampus Garching im Nordosten zählt zum Gemeindeteil Garching.
