Ehingen ist eine Mittelstadt im Südosten Baden-Württembergs, etwa 23 Kilometer südwestlich von Ulm und 67 Kilometer südöstlich von Stuttgart. Die größte Stadt im Alb-Donau-Kreis ist für die umliegenden Gemeinden ein Mittelzentrum.
Seit dem 1. Januar 1974 ist Ehingen eine Große Kreisstadt. Mit den Nachbargemeinden Griesingen, Oberdischingen und Öpfingen ist die Stadt eine Vereinbarte Verwaltungsgemeinschaft eingegangen. Der Teil der Ehinger Gemarkung auf der Albhochfläche gehört zum Biosphärengebiet Schwäbische Alb.
