Die Grafschaft Schaumburg war ein Territorium im Heiligen Römischen Reich Deutscher Nation. Die Grafschaft bestand bis 1640, als sie nach dem Tod des letzten Grafen von Schauenburg und Holstein zwischen den Landgrafen von Hessen-Kassel und den Grafen zur Lippe aufgeteilt wurde.
Benannt ist die Grafschaft nach der Burg Schaumburg , nach der sich seit Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts ein Geschlecht edler Herren benannte, das von 1110 bis 1460 zugleich mit Holstein und Stormarn belehnt war. Das Schaumburger Wappenzeichen, das sogenannte Nesselblatt , findet sich deshalb noch heute im schleswig-holsteinischen Landeswappen, sowie in den Wappen der Städte Kiel, Neustadt in Holstein, Preetz und Plön, die von den Grafen von Schauenburg und Holstein gegründet wurden.
