Es war an diesem Ort auf der alten Nürburgring in der linken Kurve vor Bergwerk, dass Niki Lauda technische Probleme hatte und seitlich in die Leitplanken krachte. Er drohte lebendig zu verbrennen, als das Wrack in Flammen aufging, aber er wurde von vier Fahrern gerettet, die direkt hinter ihm herkamen und das Ausmaß des Unfalls erkannten; sie hielten sofort an und sprangen aus ihren Autos. Das geschah im Jahr 1976.
