Det var på dette sted på den gamle Nürburgring i venstrekurven før Bergwerk, at Niki Lauda fik mekaniske problemer og kørte nærmest vinkelret ind i autoværnet. Han truede med at brænde levende, da vraget gik i brand, men han blev reddet af fire racerkørere, der kom lige bag ham og indså alvoren af ulykken; de stoppede straks og sprang ud af deres biler. Dette skete i 1976.
