Wer die historischen Fachwerkhäuser von Stolberg hautnah erleben möchte, muss die Unebenheiten der Pflastersteine auf der Straße in Kauf nehmen, die zum Rathaus führt. Am Anfang des Abstiegs befindet sich das Gasthaus Kupfer, eines der schönsten Fachwerkgebäude in dieser ehemaligen Bergbaustadt am südlichen Rand des östlichen Harz. Spätgotische und Renaissancehäuser sind in den kleinen Straßen rund um das Rathaus und die Kirche von Saint-Martin verstreut.
