Hartmannsdorf liegt nordwestlich von Gera, in der Nähe von Bad Köstritz. Durch den Ort fließt ein Bach , der in die Weiße Elster mündet. Angrenzende Gemeinden sind Bad Köstritz und Kraftsdorf im Landkreis Greiz sowie die kreisfreie Stadt Gera.
