Der Landkreis Sangerhausen war ein Landkreis im Süden des Bundeslandes Sachsen-Anhalt. Am 1. Juli 2007 wurde er im Rahmen der Kreisgebietsreform in Sachsen-Anhalt mit dem Landkreis Mansfelder Land zum neuen Landkreis Mansfeld-Südharz fusioniert. Nachbarkreise waren im Norden die Landkreise Quedlinburg und Mansfelder Land, im Osten der Landkreis Merseburg-Querfurt, im Süden und Westen die thüringischen Landkreise Kyffhäuser und Nordhausen.
Von den ursprünglich 8 Verwaltungsgemeinschaften bestanden bei der Auflösung des Landkreises noch 3 Verwaltungsgemeinschaften. In der gleichen Zeit verringerte sich die Anzahl der Gemeinden von 52 auf 40.
