Cuxhaven [ˌkʊksˈhaːfn̩] ist eine Stadt an der Mündung der Elbe in die Nordsee. Es ist Kreisstadt des gleichnamigen Landkreises in Niedersachsen und zählt entsprechend seiner Einwohnerzahl nach dem Niedersächsischen Kommunalverfassungsgesetz zu den großen selbständigen Städten. Zugleich ist es nach Wilhelmshaven und Emden die drittgrößte Stadt an der niedersächsischen Nordseeküste sowie das größte deutsche Seeheilbad. Die Stadt gehört zu den Metropolregionen Nordwest und Hamburg und ist laut Landesentwicklungsplan ein Mittelzentrum.
