Lugo ist eine Gemeinde und Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz in der Autonomen Gemeinschaft Galicien im Nordwesten Spaniens. Sie wird vom Rio Miño durchflossen und hat 98.276 Einwohner .Lugo ist die älteste Stadt Galiciens. Ihre Gründung geht auf die expansive Politik der Römer in der Zeit des Kaisers Augustus zurück. Diese zielte unter anderem darauf ab, den Nordwesten der Iberischen Halbinsel dauerhaft zu befrieden. Paulus Fabius Maximus gründete 14–13 v. Chr. im Namen seines Kaisers den Ort Lucus Augusti an der Stelle eines etwa seit 25 v. Chr. bestehenden Militärlagers.
