Der Vulkan San Juan brach entlang einer etwa vier Kilometer langen Eruptionsspalte an drei Stellen auf dem Bergkamm der Cumbre Vieja der Kanarischen Insel La Palma zwischen dem 24. Juni und dem 30. Juli 1949 aus.
Die drei Eruptionsstellen waren von unterschiedlicher vulkanologischer Charakteristik, dem neu entstandenen Krater Duraznero, der Eruptionsspalte Llano del Banco und dem Explosionskrater Hoyo Negro.
Der 24. Juni ist in Spanien der Festtag des Heiligen Johannes, der dem Vulkan den Namen gegeben hat. Seine geografische Zuordnung erfolgt allein über die Namen der drei Eruptionsstellen.
