Der Hafen von Sanlúcar de Barrameda war in der Frühen Neuzeit der Ausgangspunkt zahlreicher Expeditionen: 1498 Christoph Kolumbus zur dritten Amerikafahrt, 1519 Ferdinand Magellan zur Weltumseglung.
