Das Krankenhaus wurde von Königin Victoria Eugenia gegründet und am 31. Januar 1933 eingeweiht.
Die damals vom Roten Kreuz vorgeschlagenen Zwecke für dieses Gebäude waren (laut einem Bericht des Architekten, der das Projekt entworfen hat, Juan de Cárdenas):
Krankenhausaufenthalt von armen Patienten , Männern und Frauen, chirurgischer Art, in einem Pavillon, der mit allen Garantien für Hygiene, Sicherheit und Komfort echte Unabhängigkeit, aber Kommunikation mit dem Operationssaal und den Nebengebäuden bietet.
Apotheke, für kostenlose Hilfe für arme Patienten, ohne Krankenhausaufenthalt, völlig unabhängig von Krankenhaus und Sanatorium.
Sanatorium für Hilfe bei Krankheiten chirurgischer Natur von mehr oder weniger wohlhabenden Patienten, die für Hilfe und Unterkunft die von der Versammlung vereinbarte Summe bezahlen.
