Er befindet sich im hohen Norden Finnlands beim gleichnamigen Hauptort der Gemeinde Kittilä. Die Fluggesellschaften Finnair, SAS Scandinavian Airlines und Norwegian Air Shuttle unterhalten regelmäßige Flugverbindungen von Kittilä nach Helsinki, im Winterflugplan bestehen auch Linienflüge nach Turku, Tampere und Ivalo. In den Wintermonaten wird Kittilä zudem von verschiedenen Charterfluggesellschaften auch aus dem Ausland angeflogen, die über Kittilä Touristen in die Skiresorts Levi und Ylläs befördern. Seit Dezember 2015 bietet Lufthansa eine saisonale Verbindung zum finnischen Flughafen von München an. Germania flog zwischen Winter 2017 und 2019 nonstop von Düsseldorf.
