Catharina de' Medici ließ die Gärten von Jardin des Tuileries im Jahr 1553 im italienischen Stil anlegen, unter anderem mit wunderschönen Brunnen. Im Jahr 1664 wurden die Gärten auf Auftrag von Colbert von dem bekannten Landschaftsarchitekten André le Nôtre mit unter anderem einer breiten Allee und geometrischen Blumenbeeten verschönert.
