Catharina de' Medici heeft de tuinen van Jardin des Tuileries in 1553 in een Italiaanse stijl laten aanleggen met onder meer prachtige fonteinen. In 1664 werden de tuinen in opdracht van Colbert door de bekende tuinarchitect André le Nôtre verfraaid met onder meer een brede laan en geometrische bloemperken.
