Den Triumphbogen von Montpellier hat der Architekt François D’Orbay, ein Schüler Mansarts, entworfen, gebaut wurde er 1692 an der Stelle eines Tores der alten Stadtbefestigung. Will man vom Parc de Peyrou aus die Stadt betreten, muss man durch ihn hindurchgehen.
Sehen Sie sich die Medaillons, die Reliefs und die Attika (die Spitze) an, die in Ocker und Gelb angestrichen sind, sowie das königliche Wappen, das wieder die blaue Farbe Frankreichs zeigt.
Sie können den Triumphbogen auch ganz exklusiv in einer von der Touristeninformation organisierten Führung besteigen (88 Stufen): Sie entdecken dann einen der hinreißendsten Aussichtspunkte von Montpellier und Umgebung.
