Die Universität Aix-Marseille ist die größte frankophone Universität und jüngste Universität Frankreichs. Sie wurde am 24. August 2011 gegründet und entstand aus dem Zusammenschluss dreier bereits zuvor bestehender Universitäten. Die universitären Einrichtungen befinden sich größtenteils in den Städten Aix-en-Provence und Marseille .
Die Universität hat fünf große Campi: Aix-en-Provence, Marseille Étolie, Marseille Centre, Marseille Timone, Marseille Luminy. Die Universität hat zahlreiche Partnerhochschulen weltweit, alleine 375 Erasmus Partnerhochschulen. Deshalb sind von den 72 000 immatrikulierten Studenten im Jahre 2013 auch fast 1/7 international. Die Universität ist in fünf Fachgebiete gegliedert:
